APPLE BARS

THE ORIGINAL RECIPE

Makes a lot…cut recipe in 1/2 for a smaller pan.

12 lg apples, peeled and sliced

2 cups flour

2 cups brown sugar

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

2 cups oatmeal

1 cup shortening

sugar and butter to taste

Mix dry ingredients together. Work shortening into the dry ingred. Pack 1/2 mixture into pan. Cover with apples, sprinkle with sugar, dot with butter. Cover with other 1/2 mixture. Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes.
