BON BONS

CHRISTMAS BON BON COOKIES
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract

red and green food coloring
2 1/2 c. flour (scant)
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
Nuts, candied cherries, chocolate chips, assorted fillings and toppings, colored sugar for decorating cookies
Soften butter and shortening and cream well. Add sugar gradually and cream until fluffy, then add egg and flavorings. Sift flour before measuring, then sift again with soda, cream of tartar and a little salt, if desired.  Add one or two drops of food coloring to each batch you make.  Usually one pink batch, one green batch and one batch left white.   Mix thoroughly and chill one hour. Form teaspoonfuls of dough into small balls, make a slight depression in center of each cookie, then fill with filling of choice. Form dough around filling and roll into a ball.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes, then lift from sheet.

GLAZE:

10x sugar

milk

After cookies have cooled, frost with glaze and decorate as desired.
